Automate the calculation of your taxes to offer complete transparency to your guests and simplify the bookkeeping for your holiday cottag...

📌 This article answers the following questions:

- How do I set up the tourist tax in elloha?

- How do I add the tourist tax to a booking?

- Is the tourist tax automatically applied to bookings?

- What should I do if Booking.com already includes the tourist tax?

Why is this important?

The tourist tax is a legal requirement for most holiday rentals. Setting it up correctly in your elloha Basic account allows you to:

  • Avoid calculation errors when creating your invoices.

  • Reassure your guests by clearly displaying additional charges.

  • To simplify your bookkeeping at the end of the season thanks to automated reports.

Follow the step-by-step guide

Step 1: Access the fees and taxes settings

The ‘My Fees and Taxes’ screen allows you to configure all mandatory charges (tourist tax, VAT) relating to your accommodation.

  1. In the left-hand side menu, click on ‘Pricing’.

  2. Then select the ‘Fees & Taxes’ section.

Step 2: Set up the tourist tax

To automate the management of this tax for your accommodation, follow these steps:

  • Tick the ‘I charge a tourist tax’ option.

  • Enter the amount applicable in your local authority area.

  • The calculation is carried out automatically per person per night.

Once you have entered the amount, click ‘Save’ in the top right-hand corner of your screen.

Your tourist tax is now ready to be applied to your bookings.

💡 Tip: Contact your local council or tourist office to confirm the exact rate to apply to your guests.

Step 3: Apply the tax to your bookings

Once set up, you can include the tourist tax directly when managing your bookings:

  • Go to the section for creating or editing a booking.

  • Add the tourist tax from the basket so that it is included in the calculation of the total amount.

  • The details will automatically be included on your customers’ invoices.

This feature makes it easy to adjust the tourist tax in the event of a booking change:

  • Extension of the length of stay

  • Adding additional guests

💡 Tip: For a seamless guest experience, explicitly state the tax amount in the ‘Price does not include’ section of your listing descriptions. This avoids any unpleasant surprises at check-out! To optimise your copy, check out our guide on how to create a description that really sells.

If you use platforms such as Booking.com, the tourist tax may already be included in the prices displayed.

Remember to check your settings to avoid charging it twice.
This is important to prevent any billing errors for your guests.

Key points

  • Note: Check the amount with your local council or tourist office every year.

  • Transparency: Always state that the tax is charged as an extra in your pricing plans.
